Clearwell Castle is a Gothic-style castle in the Forest of Dean, close to where I started out filming weddings, and one of the more distinctive backdrops on this list.
A castle setting gives a film a different visual register than a barn or a farm: turrets, stone, a real sense of scale, which shows up mostly in the wide shots rather than anything staged for the camera. Deano and Lou's day was cut to just over six minutes, enough to let that scale register without dwelling on it.
Midsummer weddings run long, from morning preparations through to a late evening reception, and a Highlights edit has to be selective about which parts of that stretch actually make the cut. The castle's scale means there's usually a strong wide shot available whenever the day needs one.
The Forest of Dean is where I started filming weddings, so there's a familiarity to working here that I don't always have elsewhere: knowing roughly where the light will be at a given hour, and where a venue like this tends to gather people without anyone planning it.
