I travelled to Montenegro with a deliberately agile kit. I was there to film, but I was also there as Grant's friend and as a guest at the wedding, which meant being able to put the camera down when I needed to, then respond quickly when the day started moving again.
The ceremony took place in a Catholic church on a mountain near Tivat. From there, everyone travelled to Astoria in Radovići for dinner, before the wedding moved again for the evening celebration at a private property in Đuraševići.
Moving between three different settings gave the day a natural change of rhythm. A deliberately agile kit meant I could move between them without turning the wedding into a production. I was there as Grant's friend and as a guest as well as the filmmaker, so the equipment needed to let me step in and out of that role easily.
Grant is one of my closest friends and planned my own stag do. The location is an important part of the finished film, but it isn't the reason the film matters to me. That comes from who it was made for.
This is an example of a Highlights Film: a compact edit that carries the shape and atmosphere of a destination wedding without trying to record every moment.
